Comedy Central's The Daily Show Host Jon Stewart called for a “no shoot” policy in the wake of the second assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, suggesting that people in the entertainment industry should stay in their sphere and leave commentary to “actual news” rather than make “profound statements about this moment.”
“I think you have to apply the same methodology you use for pretty much anything: Don't get caught up. Look, we're living in scary times with a lot of emotions. I think the one rule we might all benefit from in terms of engagement is 'no filming,'” Stewart said during an interview backstage at the 2024 Emmy Awards in Los Angeles.
“No matter how angry you are, no matter who you hate, no matter who you detest, I believe that instituting a 'no shooting' policy is the way to make things calmer,” the TV host continued.
Stewart added that members of the entertainment industry “should try not to feel like they're in the spotlight to have to say something significant about this moment.”
“They're incredibly talented producers and writers and comedians, and we're just going to stick to what we do best and try to embrace whatever comes our way, as long as we don't let ourselves get sucked into what we think might be this big moment,” Stewart elaborated.
“I'll leave that to the actual news, and as we've seen, who's going to get away with it,” Stewart concluded.

President Trump survived another assassination attempt on Sunday, Breitbart News reported, marking the second time the 45th president has survived an assassination attempt in less than two months.
The Republican candidate's campaign said Sunday afternoon that Trump was safe “although gunshots were heard near him.”
The suspect, Ryan Wesley Routh, reportedly hid in bushes near the Trump International Golf Course and waited for Trump to emerge while he was playing golf.
Apparently Secret Service agents were a hole or two ahead of Trump to secure the area while he was playing golf, which allowed the Secret Service to encounter him before he fired shots at the 45th president.
According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, U.S. Secret Service agents engaged the suspect, who was armed with a scoped AK-47-style rifle, a backpack and a Go-Pro, possibly to film what he was planning.
Once officers located the man, they opened fire, and he fled the scene in a black Nissan. A witness saw the suspect fleeing and took photos of the vehicle and license plate, the sheriff's office said. From there, police were able to encounter and detain the man.
The FBI has announced that it is currently investigating a second assassination attempt on President Trump. Meanwhile, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) Announced The state of Florida will be conducting its own investigation into what happened, separate from the federal investigation.
Questions remain unanswered about how Routh and fellow plotter Thomas Matthew Crooks were able to get so far in their plot, and how, in the space of just two months, the two plotters were able to get so close to Trump and discover weaknesses in the security plans surrounding the 45th president.
Trump narrowly survived the assassination attempt on July 13, when Crooks opened fire and shot him in the ear while he was speaking at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, Breitbart News reported.
The first assassination attempt killed former Fire Chief Corey Comperatore and seriously injured two other rally attendees, David Duch and James Copenhaver.
