Alleged Assassination Attempt by Radical Ukraine Supporter Came After Harris Claimed Trump Told Putin to Invade Ukraine

The assassination attempt by Ukrainian extremist sympathizers came less than a week after Vice President Kamala Harris lied and said former President Donald Trump had told Russian President Vladimir Putin to invade Ukraine.

Harris said During the debate with Trump:

It's well known that he admires dictators and wants to be a dictator. It's well known that he said about Putin that he can do whatever he wants and he can invade Ukraine. It's well known that he said that Russia was great when it invaded Ukraine.

Even though this was not true, ABC News host Lindsey Davis responded, “Thank you, Vice President Harris.”

Trump never told Putin that he was free to invade Ukraine and do whatever he wanted.

The lie that Trump told Putin “he can do whatever he wants” stemmed from Trump recalling that at a rally this year, former German Chancellor Angela Merkel asked him whether the United States would defend Germany from Russia if Germany didn't meet its defense spending obligations under NATO treaties. Trump said he responded to Merkel, “No, I won't protect you guys. In fact, I encourage them to do whatever they want. You have to pay. You have to pay your bills.”

Trump was speaking hypothetically about a hypothetical situation to pressure Germany, Europe's largest economy, to meet its obligation to spend 2% of its GDP on defense. He never told Putin to “do whatever you want,” and he never said to “invade Ukraine.”

This lie has been repeated many times by President Joe Biden, other Democrats and most recently by Harris during the debates.

Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, the suspect in Sunday's assassination attempt on President Trump, was an ardent supporter of Ukraine. Reports said he was willing to go to Ukraine to fight in 2022 but was rejected due to his age and lack of military experience.
