Like many Americans, actress Ali Larter has struggled with a new normal during the coronavirus pandemic, confined to her home and trying to navigate life with her family in Los Angeles.
But instead of getting bogged down in uncertainty in California, the “Legally Blonde” actress and her husband, actor and comedian Hayes MacArthur, decided to hit the road in search of something better.
“Industry came to a complete halt and kids were glued to their screens doing remote learning,” McArthur said. Lou MagazineThe couple have a son and a daughter. “So a year later, we loaded up the car and hit the road,” Larter continued. “We saw this as an opportunity for a family adventure and started driving north.”

The family settled in Sun Valley, Idaho, a city that offered a stark contrast to the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles.
“We fell in love with the beauty of the mountains and their quiet grandeur,” Larter said, explaining how their two-month journey turned into a permanent move. “Neither of us had ever lived in a small town. People look out for each other. There's a real sense of community here and we're so happy to be a part of it.”

Larter and McArthur finalized their move from Los Angeles by building a new 4,400-square-foot home in Sun Valley.
“Looking at the mountains makes me feel relaxed and energized,” Larter said of his new surroundings. “Most of my life I feel like I'm going 1,000 miles an hour, but looking at these giant rock formations calms me down.”
“Neither of us had ever lived in a small town. People look out for each other. There's a real sense of community here and we're so happy to be a part of it.”
“Mountains have the power to ground you and slow you down, especially when you're stuck in traffic with a herd of elk blocking the road,” MacArthur joked.

Larter isn't the only celebrity to move out of Los Angeles recently: Stars like Mark Wahlberg, Julia Roberts, Ana de Armas, Kelly Clarkson and Candace Cameron Bure have also left for extenuating circumstances, whether it be for safety, a fresh start or to be closer to family.
