Attorney General Merrick Garland announced Tuesday that the Justice Department will “exhaust all available resources” in investigating a second assassination attempt on Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

Garland said: At the start of a Department of Justice ceremony celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Office of Community Oriented Police Services (COPS).

“The FBI continues to investigate the attempted assassination of the former president that occurred on Sunday in Florida, and I am thankful that he is safe,” Garland said. “The entire Department of Justice, particularly the FBI, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida, and the Homeland Security Division, are working closely with our local state law enforcement partners.”

“We will all work tirelessly to hold those responsible to account, and we will spare no resources in this investigation.”

Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, was indicted on federal firearms charges on Monday after being arrested Sunday outside the Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach, Florida. Routh is accused of setting up a sniper nest and plotting to assassinate Trump while he was golfing.

Secret Service agents found Routh carrying a scoped AK-47 rifle near the sixth hole at Trump's Palm Beach County golf course, about 300 to 500 yards from the former president.

Police say Routh waited there for about 12 hours.

Nearly two months have passed since an assassination attempt was thwarted when Trump was wounded live on television at a campaign event in Butler, Pennsylvania, and authorities say the investigation is still ongoing.
