Florida Republican Rep. Anna Paulina Luna said she has been the target of “very serious gun threats” and blamed “rhetoric” from “the left.”
“In recent weeks, I have received an increasing number of threats and personal information leaks, including online pages encouraging strangers to send threatening packages to my home,” she said in a statement Wednesday. “This weekend, it escalated to a very serious shooting threat, and we are taking all necessary steps to ensure the safety of my family, staff and our district.”
She said law enforcement is actively investigating the matter and her office will provide updates.
Luna said the threat against him came hours after the second assassination attempt on former President Trump on Sunday.
“The left continues to push an extremist agenda of hate and rhetoric that leads to violence. Just hours before this threat on my office, there was a second assassination attempt on President Trump's life,” Luna said. “We will not be intimidated or threatened by those who seek to use violence to push their cause and win the election.”
She added that while Democrats “continue to direct their hatred and violence at Republicans,” Republicans “will never stop fighting for our great country and ensuring that those who feel their voices are not being heard have a say in Washington.”
The Florida Republican ended his speech by asking people to “please pray for us.”
