Former President Donald Trump is “on a nerve” after two assassination attempts, CNN commentator and New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman said on CNN's “The Source” on Friday.
Speaking at a rally in New York on Wednesday, Trump said, “I thought this guy was a smart guy. This guy, I'm ready to go. You see, I've got a little bit of a yips problem, right? That was awesome. I was more than ready to start the duel.”
Guest host Boris Sanchez said: “He describes it as an 'ip moment' – he sees some movement out of the corner of his eye and imagines someone jumping out of the crowd and he flinches. What went through your mind when you saw that?”
“You can tell an awful lot by looking at his face, because his eyes were wandering to the right, his body was shaking and he said he thought someone was coming onstage,” Haberman said. “This is clearly his reaction to what happened on Sunday, when there was another assassination attempt on him, the second in two months. He's nervous. For him to say he has the yips is an admission of anxiety and is very unusual for a guy who always wants to appear strong.”
She added: “He and his camp feel very much under siege. They feel like they're under attack in some way, all the time, for a variety of reasons. There are physical threats, there are internet threats, there are a variety of threats, and it's coming from a variety of places.”
