The Democratic National Committee launched a billboard campaign on Monday calling former President Trump a “coward” for refusing to agree to a second debate with Vice President Harris on CNN.
The mobile billboard, depicting Trump's face riding a chicken, will be set up outside Trump's rallies in Indiana, Pennsylvania on Monday, and other signs will be set up around the city, according to the Democratic National Committee.
“It wasn't that long ago that Donald Trump boasted about debating 'anytime, anywhere,' but after Vice President Kamala Harris held him accountable for his presidential failures and dangerous second-term policies in the first debate, it's no wonder he's turned cowardly – too afraid to be held accountable again,” said Avi Rahman, deputy communications director for the Democratic National Committee.
The effort comes after Harris formally accepted an invitation from CNN on Saturday to appear in the second debate with Trump.
“Donald Trump should have no problem agreeing to this debate, which has the same format and structure as the CNN debate that Trump participated in and claimed to win in June, when he praised CNN's moderator, rules and ratings,” said Jen O'Malley Dillon, co-chair of the Harris campaign.
Trump fired back late Saturday, saying there would be no second debate with Harris.
“She's had one debate. I've had two. It's too late to do another one. I would have liked to in many ways, but it's too late now. The votes are over,” Trump said at a campaign event in Wilmington, North Carolina.
“She had a chance to do it on Fox,” Trump said, “and they invited us, and I waited and I waited and they said no. They said no, but now she's saying she wants to do the debate on CNN right before the election because she's losing badly.”
