New York Times to launch subscription service for podcasts

The New York Times is partnering with Apple Inc. and Spotify to offer subscription services for many of its popular podcasts, the company announced this week.

Starting next month, listeners of The New York Times Podcast on Apple Podcasts and Spotify will be able to sign up for unlimited access to the publication's shows, the company announced. said.

The latest episodes of most popular shows, including “The Daily,” “The Ezra Klein Show,” “Hard Fork” and “Modern Love,” will still be available to watch for free, but listeners will need to subscribe to access archives of those shows.

Subscribers will also get early access to new shows from Serial Productions.

“We expect the subscription model will evolve over time to enable us to retain and grow our audience while introducing listeners to the benefits of subscription,” the company said.

The company said podcast subscriptions will cost $6 per month or $50 per year, but New York Times All Access and Home Delivery subscribers will continue to have full access at no extra charge.
