The latest national polls show the presidential race is tight, with former President Trump leading Vice President Harris among likely voters by one percentage point, within the poll's margin of error.
aQuinnipiac University SurveyA poll released Tuesday found that Trump received 48 percent support from likely 2024 voters, compared with 47 percent for Harris. Green Party candidate Jill Stein and Libertarian Party candidate Chase Oliver both received 1 percent.
The polling paints a slightly different picture than previous polls, including one conducted by Quinnipiac University in late August that gave Harris a slight lead with 49 percent to Trump's 47 percent.
The survey found that in a hypothetical two-way race, the two candidates were tied at 48 percent.
Opinion polls showed that both candidates have strong support within their parties.irThe Republican former president garnered support from independents, but Trump had a slight lead among them, with the former Republican president winning 47% of independents, compared with Democrats Harris on 44%, Stein on 3% and Oliver on 2%, according to the survey.
Nearly two-thirds of voters, 64%, said they want to see a second White House debate. About 31% of respondents thought so. Harris accepted a CNN invitation for a second debate last week. Trump said it was “too late for another one” while campaigning in North Carolina.
Another new poll conducted by CNN/SSRS found a similar split among voters, with Harris receiving 48 percent of the support of the national poll, also released Tuesday, to Trump's 47 percent.
Harris currently leads Trump by nearly 4 percentage points, according to the latest The Hill/Decision Desk poll. The vice president has a 50.4 percent approval rating, while the former president has a 46.5 percent approval rating.
The Quinnipiac University poll was conducted Sept. 19-22 among 1,728 voters and has a margin of error of 2.4 percentage points.
