Mark Lotter, former director of strategic communications for President Trump's 2020 campaign, said Thursday on MSNBC's “The Beat” that former President Donald Trump is leading in the polls, so why would he argue with Vice President Kamala Harris? He said no.
“Let me play out exactly how Vice President Harris is open to another debate,” host Ari Melber said.
During her campaign, Harris said: Let's discuss again. There is more to be said, and American voters have a right to hear the conversations we think we should have. ”
“President Trump publicly declined the offer,” Melber said. “I wondered why he wouldn't do it, since he's done so many debates in previous elections and it's always been a tradition. What do you say to people who think, “Secondly, is that an admission that he lost the last game and didn't think it would work out for him?”
“He was willing to do the debate on Fox, but Harris' team rejected it,” Lotter said. “I don't see why he would need to go back on stage with her. In fact, he Kamala Harris is still leading in this race by about 5 points compared to Joe Biden at this point in 2020, and by maybe 3-4 points in all key battleground states. She's 5 points behind. In fact, her poll numbers were even worse than Hillary Clinton was at this point in 2016. So if you're Donald Trump, you see, I'm in the lead. Why would I want her to take another bite of the apple?”
