Trump: Protect Britain by Addressing Migration and Energy Costs

Trump Comments on UK Policy Challenges

President Donald Trump emphasized that the UK government should focus on delivering what its voters actually desire to protect the country. In light of a tough election for Britain’s ruling Labor Party, which is facing backlash against Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Trump suggested that the party could recover if it let go of its fixation on mass immigration and aggressive decarbonization efforts.

After returning from a trip to China, Trump reiterated his belief that the UK should move away from self-sabotaging policies and address the key issues harming its economy and living standards. When asked about Starmer, he acknowledged that while the Prime Minister has significant policy challenges, he also described him as “actually a good person” who has the potential to improve the situation if he makes the right moves.

Trump noted that Starmer faces difficulties primarily related to energy and immigration. He urged the Prime Minister to tap into the North Sea’s resources. “He has a gold mine!” Trump asserted, highlighting the value of the oil there. He pointed out that much of the UK’s oil supply comes from Norway, which sources from the North Sea, suggesting that the UK could be self-sufficient.

Despite the UK’s vast, untapped resources in natural gas and oil, Trump criticized the current government’s emphasis on renewable energy—largely produced in China. He challenged Starmer to reassess domestic energy policies, dismissing wind energy as costly, harmful to wildlife, and visually unappealing.

On the prospects of Starmer’s political future, Trump reflected that “it’s difficult,” indicating the Prime Minister must address immigration issues to gain traction.

Trump’s views resonate with some political factions in the UK, including Nigel Farage’s Reform Britain, which argues that the housing crisis stems from increased demand due to mass migration. Farage believes that economic growth could be achieved by enhancing energy access.

Historically, Trump has expressed critiques of the UK’s open border policies and energy strategies but often tempers these critiques with commendation for Starmer. During King Charles III’s recent state visit to Washington, Trump reiterated his views, stating:

I really like Keir Starmer, but I think he made a tragic mistake on immigration, and he made a tragic mistake on energy… [the King is] a completely different person than your prime minister. Your Prime Minister has to learn how to cope in his own way, and he will cope better.
