The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Tuesday night local time that it would respond to Iranian missile attacks “at a location and time determined by us.”
Israeli Defense Forces spokesman Maj. Gen. Daniel Hagari addressed the nation immediately after the Iranian attack, the second time since April. Iran launched 400 missiles, but almost all were intercepted, with only a few hitting Israel. Israelis across the country were ordered to shelter in air raid shelters. Shortly after Hagari's press conference, the Home Front Command announced that people could leave the evacuation centers.
Hagari said there were no injuries or deaths in Israel. Social media reported that one Palestinian was killed in Jericho.
Social media was abuzz with videos of missiles being fired at Iran, flying over Jordan, and being intercepted over Israel. Video showed missile debris falling across Israel.
Some videos showed missiles and debris flying over Islamic holy sites in Jerusalem. One video showed an attack on an Israeli nuclear power facility in Dimona.
The Israeli military asked the public not to share such videos, as they could help Iran identify targets and improve its trajectory.
It was Iran's second missile attack since April, when Iran launched around 300 missiles and drones, most of which were also intercepted.
Israel retaliated by targeting Iranian air defenses, exposing Iran's own weak air defenses. With Hezbollah weakened by Israel in Lebanon, Iran also lacks deterrence against Israeli counterattacks.
