‘Dangerous’ migrant is person of interest in shooting death of 17-year-old girl

A 19-year-old male immigrant described as a “dangerous individual” is in custody in connection with the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old female immigrant in Chicago on Tuesday, law enforcement officials told Fox News.

Chicago Police Department (CPD) officials told Fox News that Juan Ramirez-Olivo was involved in the death of 17-year-old Stephanie Lopez Ramirez. She was found dead of a gunshot wound to the arm Tuesday in her Humboldt Park apartment on Chicago's west side. The two were together in the apartment when the shooting occurred.

CPD officials and another friend of the victim's family told Fox News that Ramirez-Olivo implied the shooting was an accident. However, both sources question this. CPD officials said Ramirez-Olivo likely was illegally possessing a gun he had purchased on the street.

Ramirez-Olivo may also have lied to Chicago police about his hometown. Chicago police said the arrest report shows Ramirez-Olivo told police he was from Venezuela. But ICE officials told Fox News that records show Ramirez-Olivo is from Colombia. CPD officials called Ramirez-Olivo a “liar.”

ICE officials told Fox News that Ramirez-Olivo entered the United States on parole and was issued a notice to appear in court. FOX News has submitted a request to ICE to review Ramirez-Olivo's status.

Chicago police are not releasing the suspect's name at this time, citing a policy of not releasing the suspect's name until they are charged.

Chicago police confirmed that the female victim was found unresponsive inside a residence with a single gunshot wound to her left arm. Police said she was pronounced dead at the scene and dignitaries were taken into custody.

Meanwhile, the victim's family is saddened and furious. Friends of the victim's family estimate that López Ramirez had been in the United States for about two years.

“She was a very sweet girl who loved her family very much,” said a family friend. “Always happy and full of life.”
