Pennsylvania Republican Senate candidate Dave McCormick said he could not resort to negative attacks because Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.) “doesn't have a sustainable track record” after nearly 20 years in the Senate. He said he had no choice but to do so.
Casey launched a personal attack on McCormick before McCormick spoke during the debate, and another attack during his rebuttal to the first question about the Middle East. After the second trial, McCormick said that during the campaign, Casey had resorted to personal attacks to compensate for his lack of performance in the Senate.
“You've heard throughout this campaign that when you don't have a track record, like Sen. Casey, you attack the other person,” McCormick said. “His voice is mainly attacking me.”
McCormick said he launched the website Thursday. called Caseylies.com says, “You can find actual facts from third-party sources.” Caseylies.com details Bob Casey's lies about the cost of living, taxes, Social Security protections, open borders, the war on fossil fuels, and many other topics.
He added that viewers should wonder if he is running a negative campaign as a third-term incumbent.
“You should ask yourself why a senator who has 18 years of experience and should be able to run on that record continues to make negative attacks on me throughout the campaign, most of which are lies. '' McCormick said.
Regarding Israel policy in particular, the moderator asked the candidates whether they intended to send troops to the region to support the Jewish state. McCormick said he would not send troops at this time, but stressed that the United States must support Israel as it “fights for its life.”
“My wife and I went to Israel in January. We witnessed the atrocities inflicted on the Jewish people by Hamas,” he added.
He also said that Mr. Casey was “the deciding vote” on funding “to provide Iran with $100 billion in sanctions funds that were used to underwrite terrorism.”
Asked if there was a “red line” where Israel would lose support, McCormick said: “The problem is that we don't do enough about Israel.”
Mr. Casey said that to him, the outright lie “doesn't exist” and that Congress needs to declare war and debate before the United States sends in troops.
