On “CNN News Central” Thursday, co-host John Berman said “there was an effort to bring politics into” news stories surrounding the response to the aftermath of Hurricane Helen, adding that “President Biden “Enough is enough,” said former 2024 Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's campaign, with accusations that FEMA's immigration spending hurt the agency's ability to respond to future storms. There are concerns that this will affect reconstruction efforts.
“It's notable that over the last five days while this incident has been going on, there have been attempts to bring politics into this, and there have been accusations that President Biden did not act quickly enough,” Berman said. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said storm recovery is not the time for politics and said there was a strong level of bipartisan cooperation among those working on the storm response.
