Donald Trump Leads Harris with Independents, White Working Class Voters

Former President Donald Trump leads Vice President Kamala Harris among independents and white working-class voters in a closely contested presidential race, according to an NPR/PBS News/Marist poll.

public opinion poll, published On Thursday, Trump and Harris were found to have even support nationally, at 48% and 50%, respectively, among 1,294 likely voters. Within a margin of error of +/-3.7 percentage points, 1 percent support third-party candidates in close races and 1 percent are undecided.

Harris' approval rating has fallen by 1 percentage point since September's NPR/PBS News/Marist poll, where she had 51% and Trump 48%.

While Harris may have a slight edge overall, Trump leads Harris among independents by a 4-point margin.

According to the poll, 50% of independents support Trump and 46% support Harris. There is a large gender gap among independents, which carries over into the overall results.

Trump leads Harris among independent men, 62% to 36%, but Harris leads among independent women, 58% to 35%. This trend is reflected in the campaign as a whole, with all likely male voters in the survey supporting the former president by a margin of 57% to 41%, compared to 58% of women. 40% support Harris.

Trump has a significant advantage among white working-class voters. Among white respondents without a college education, Harris leads by a 62% to 36% margin. Within this group, Trump leads both men and women. White working-class women favor Trump over Harris, 55% to 42%, and white working-class men even more favor Trump over Harris, 70% to 29%. are.

White college-educated voters support Harris over Trump, 58% to 40%. Among women in this demographic, Harris' approval rating was 58% to Trump's 41%, while among men it was 58% to 40%.

The NPR/PBS News/Marist poll was conducted from September 27th to October 1st.
