CNN polling analyst Harry Enten said he was stunned to see support for the Democratic Party among black voters continue to decline in recent polls.
“Sometimes there are trend lines that I didn't notice before and I think, 'Wow!'” Enten said.
“This is part of a long-standing trend of young black men moving away from the Democratic Party. Kamala Harris is just the latest to face a large wave of young black men turning to the Republican Party.”
“This is one of them. This is the Democratic lead among black men under 45 in the presidential election. Go back to November 2012, and what do you see? Obama won by 81 points. “Clinton only won by 63 points,” he explained.
“And last time, it dropped all the way down to Biden by age 53, so it's already a significant decline,” Enten continued. “And just look at the latest polling averages. Kamala Harris' gain is only 41 points! That's about half the margin when Obama beat them in November 2012. .”
He goes on to show that the pattern of declining support for Democrats in black communities also extends to polls among black men overall, although Democrats still enjoy much higher support from black voters than Republicans. Ta. Even among black women, Harris' approval rating is historically lower than that of previous Democratic candidates.
“This is part of a long-standing trend of young black men moving away from the Democratic Party,” Enten concluded. “Kamala Harris is just the latest to face so many young black men turning to the Republican Party.”
