Bath and Body Works has announced that it has stopped selling winter-themed candles that many social media users claim resemble Ku Klux Klan (KKK) hoods.

The candle's label, called “Snowed In,” was decorated with stylized paper snowflakes. However, many online compared it to the hoods and robes worn by Klan members.
The KKK is considered one of the “oldest and most notorious” hate groups in the United States, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center.
The candles have since been removed from Bath & Body Works' website and retail stores, with the company claiming it was “unintentional.”
“At Bath and Body Works, we listen to our team and customers and are committed to correcting all mistakes, even unintentional ones like this one,” a spokesperson said. said the person. “We apologize to anyone we offended, are working quickly to remove this item, and are evaluating our process going forward.”
After the controversy erupted late last week, consumers who tried to order candles said on social media that their orders had been cancelled.
The canceled candle then appeared on eBay, where one person tried to sell it for $350. The website's policy prohibits listing items with racist vocabulary or language, but the candles will remain on eBay because they are not deemed explicitly racist.
“EBay's policy prohibits listing items that include racist terminology or language,” a spokesperson for the company said. “Products sold using racist language will be blocked or removed.”
Candles, on the other hand, are the backbone of Bath and Body Works' collection, which is also known for its soaps and lotions.
Additionally, the retailer launches holiday-scented candles, which account for nearly 40% of its annual sales.
