ICE Arrests Migrant Convicted of Assaulting NYPD Officers in Mob Attack

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has released a man to the United States by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, who was convicted of assaulting a New York City Police Department (NYPD) officer. Izquiel was sentenced to one year in prison, but ICE officials detained He remains in ICE custody pending deportation from the United States.

“Gomez Izquiel is a criminal and a threat to New York City's public servants, residents, and businesses,” ICE Officer Kenneth Gennaro said in a statement. “We will not allow our community to become a safe haven for noncitizens who refuse to abide by our laws.”

Izquiel illegally crossed the U.S.-Mexico border for the first time on Aug. 23, 2023, near the Rio Grande Valley in Texas, ICE officials said. Border Patrol agents asked for Izquiel's expedited removal, but two days later, Izquiel withdrew his application to enter the United States and voluntarily returned to Mexico.

Then, on October 3, 2023, Izquiel illegally crossed the border again near the Del Rio area of ​​Texas. Border Patrol agents issued Izquiel a Notice to Appear to a Federal Immigration Judge (NTA) in Memphis, Tennessee, on June 4, 2024, and released him into the interior of the United States.

ICE officials said Izquiel failed to follow IRS reporting instructions.

Just a few months later, in January, Izquiel was arrested along with several other Venezuelan immigrants for allegedly attacking two New York City police officers in Times Square.
