Democrat Swing State Senate Candidates Cozy Up to Trump

Democratic Senate candidates in key battleground states are pleading with President Trump voters for their support, a bad sign for his campaign and flashing red flags for Kamala Harris. .

In Michigan, Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.) is openly courting Trump voters. In Pennsylvania, Sen. Bob Casey's (D-Pennsylvania) campaign released an ad showing Donald Trump signing the bill in the Oval Office, with the narrator saying he would like to make a historic move to end NAFTA. Mr. Casey touted his support for Mr. Trump on the trade deal. And in Wisconsin, the campaign of left-leaning Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.) ran an ad touting her alignment with President Trump on trade policy.

Candidates on the ground often have a better understanding of where their state is leaning than experts or pollsters. Slotkin, an “seasoned” (as Punchbowl News called her) politician, and career politicians like Casey and Baldwin are cozying up to Trump because the candidates think Harris is on track to win. It's a sign that he's not convinced that he's in the league, and is resorting to desperate measures to make up for the top spot. Ticket weaknesses.

A victory in one of the three states would likely mean President Trump returns to the White House. If Trump wins a few states, he will almost certainly win the Electoral College.

Mr. Slotkin, who is in a close race with former Republican Rep. Mike Rogers, announced at an event Thursday that Michigan voters' independent Promoted the idea.

“The only reason I'm standing before you is because fiercely independent Michigan voters voted for Donald Trump and Elissa Slotkin on the same ballot,” Slotkin said. Ta.

She regularly touts her service in the apolitical CIA post during the George W. Bush administration as bipartisan and bona fide, a character that Republicans deride.

Slotkin has been warning of Harris' weakness in the state since shortly after Harris ousted her boss, President Joe Biden, as chief of staff.

In late September, when Harris was on a roll after the Democratic National Convention and still in the honeymoon phase, Slotkin said: warned Donors claimed Harris was “underwater” in the state.

Even in Pennsylvania, where polls show Trump and Harris tied, Casey avoids mentioning Harris.

It's worth noting that Casey's ad makes no mention of the vice president.

A Rasmussen poll released Monday shows Mr. Trump leading Ms. Harris by 3 points in the Keystone State.

Mr. Casey has kept a low profile in a sleepy Senate as Mr. McCormick continued his steady climb in the summer polls, but surrendered a large early lead. That competition is currently at a stalemate.

The biggest surprise may be Wisconsin. Republican businessman Eric Hovde turned a campaign canceled by Democrats into a dead heat. The Cook Political Report flipped the Wisconsin Senate race from a “Democratic lead” to a “runoff” just weeks before Election Day, and Republicans have been pouring money into the state in recent weeks and are expected to move forward in the coming days. I hope it will bear fruit.

He told Breitbart News in October that Democrats were “in a complete panic.”

Baldwin's ad touts President Trump's signing of the “Made in America” bill and capitalizes on President Trump's reorientation of trade policy.

This message has worked well for President Trump in blue-collar states like Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania, and Democrats have also adopted it.

As stocks continue to rise on election day, three Democrats are likely to continue supporting Trump's policies, and polls show Trump is doing better than he was in 2020 or even 2016. shown.

It remains to be seen whether Trump will be able to persuade voters to abandon a party that has supported these popular policies and support one that has fought tooth and nail, and whether President Trump will be able to push his policy agenda through Congress. may be decided.
