CNN pundit downplays Big Tech censorship of Hunter Biden laptop in 2020, calls government collusion ‘nonsense’

CNN contributor Kara Swisher drastically downplayed Big Tech's censorship of Hunter Biden's laptop coverage during the 2020 campaign, calling allegations of collusion between tech companies and the federal government “utter nonsense.” he called, frowning.

On Wednesday night, a CNN panel discussion focused on remarks by Republican vice presidential candidate Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) about how social media giants are “verifiably” “censoring the American people.” ” and suggested that President Biden's victory was illegitimate. “We've moved away from talking about things like the Hunter Biden laptop incident,” which he said had a “significant, material impact” on the outcome of the last election.

“There is no evidence that the tech companies conspired to do this,” Swisher responded. “This is nonsense, but he knows it.”

Fellow panelist Scott Jennings, a conservative CNN political analyst, pushed back, claiming there was a “coordinated effort” to suppress the New York Post's bombshell report on the laptop.

“I'm one of the biggest critics of technology. This is nonsense. Absolute nonsense,” Swisher doubled down.

“Didn't the New York Post get kicked out of Twitter?” Jennings asked.

When Jennings tried to rebut Swisher, CNN anchor Abby Phillip interjected, acknowledging that Swisher is a technology journalist and that Swisher has “actually been reporting on this.” “I got the job done,'' he said.

“I don't know why you keep repeating things that aren't true,” Swisher told Jennings.

“Are they banned from Twitter? For real!” Jennings responded.

“They did, and then [Twitter] “We said we made a mistake and quickly reversed it. Like CNN is doing, like New York Time is doing,” Swisher replied, “and it wasn't after the election, it was during the election. It was…and [then-Twitter CEO] Jack Dorsey made the switch. ”

Hunter Biden's laptop becomes key evidence in gun trial and resurfaces as media embarrassment

The New York Times and Washington Post examined Hunter Biden's laptop after dismissing the New York Post's bombshell reporting during the 2020 presidential election.

Swisher continued, “So I wonder what's the problem. You think Twitter is the government? You think Twitter runs things? And there's such widespread collusion. That doesn't exist. And J.D. Vance knows that because he worked in the technology industry. He knows that's not the case.” It's like Big Tech. They are not colluding on this issue. ”

But Mr. Swisher was wrong to claim that the New York Post was “quickly taken back” by Twitter (now called X). The New York Post's account was locked down for a whopping 16 days after it refused to remove a post linking to Hunter Biden's laptop coverage, and was re-platformed less than a week before Election Day 2020.

Also, how Twitter blocked users from even sharing links through direct messages, and how Twitter users, including then-White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany, had their accounts locked for sharing the Post's reporting. I couldn't even touch it. It alleges that it violated Twitter's rules against distributing hacked information. This is despite the Biden campaign not claiming that the laptop was hacked.

Additionally, Swisher's assertion that there was no collusion between the social media giant and the government comes as no surprise as the FBI and Justice Department told Twitter about a possible “hack-and-leak” operation from Russia regarding Hunter. This is overturned by the disclosure of Twitter files that show whether the notification was made. Biden before the New York Post published the article. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg also said in August that his company was under pressure from the Biden administration to remove coronavirus-related content it deemed misinformation, and that Hunter Biden's The FBI acknowledged it had previously warned about “Russian propaganda” before the laptop surfaced.

Critics slammed Swisher's comments on social media.

“Yes, this is all a complete lie by CNN's @karaswisher. They claim she is someone they 'know,'” independent journalist Glenn Greenwald responded. Twitter locked the New York Post from its account for two weeks, three days before the election, after it refused to remove links to six articles about Biden. ”

“The article about Hunter Biden's laptop was clearly suppressed by Twitter and Facebook,” Twitter Files journalist Matt Taibbi responded. “Mark Zuckerberg's letter, FBI agent Elvis Chan's deposition, Yoel Roth's FEC declaration, and other documents at least show that the FBI falsely warned about foreign 'hack-and-leak' operations. It shows that

“This is a perfect example of the arrogance that comes from bigoted ignorance,” said New York Post columnist Miranda Devine. “The @nypost Twitter account was locked for two weeks, days before the 2020 election. People like @kayleighmcenany were suspended just for trying to privately DM links to our articles. I don't know what you're talking about @crowwasher.”
