Texas Is ‘a Very Voter-Suppressed State’

During MSNBC's election coverage on Tuesday, MSNBC host Joy Reid reacted to the re-election of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), calling Texas a “highly voter suppressed state.” insisted. And Harris County, Texas, “has the highest number of black voters,” he said. And they are deeply oppressed in terms of their ability and access to the ballot. ”

After NBC predicted the re-election of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), MSNBC host Jen Psaki noted the changes in each state, noting that Ohio was once a deciding factor in presidential elections. But that is not the case now, he said. And Texas is a state that can change, and Democrats hope to win the state, which continues to change every election cycle.

Reed added, “This is also a state that has a lot of voter suppression. And…the focus of that voter suppression from the capital is Harris County, where Houston is. And they're going to tackle it relentlessly. This is also the largest single physical number of black voters in any county outside of Cook County, Illinois. So Democrats are going to have to do a lot of work, not just in terms of voter suppression, but also in terms of voter motivation.”

Later in the segment, Reed agreed with fellow host Rachel Maddow that you can change policy in Texas by voting in your local elections.
