Kamala Harris calls President Trump to demand election concession
FOX News' Peter Doocy details Vice President Kamala Harris' call to President-elect Trump to confirm he would concede defeat and vote to certify victory.
Vice President Kamala Harris' role in rallying devastated Democratic voters on election night is drawing attention to a similar choice by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in November 2016.
If both Democrats had defeated their Republican rival, Donald Trump, she would have become the country's first female president.
When Trump called the campaign in 2016, Clinton did not address supporters until the next morning. Harris is scheduled to speak to supporters Wednesday night.
At the time, some critics criticized Clinton for not delivering a consolation speech that night at New York's Javits Center. Clinton instead allowed her campaign manager, John Podesta, to speak briefly with supporters.

The next day, Clinton called on her supporters to “accept this result and then look to the future.”
“Donald Trump is going to be our president, and we owe him an open mind and an opportunity to show leadership,” she said.
Similarly, on Tuesday night, Harris supporters streamed out of a Howard University crowd party after learning from Harris' publicist that she would not address the crowd.
Social media users quickly took notice, criticizing the vice president for not showing her face even as her supporters waited hours for her to appear.

“About 10,000 people showed up for Kamala Harris' watch party and they didn't even show up,” one X user wrote. “Apparently, time meant nothing to her. That last act is a perfect illustration of why she lost.”
Another user wrote, “Mr. Harris didn't even show up to her campaign party last night to greet her supporters. This just shows how elitist she is and this is okay. Thinking that way is ruining the party,” he wrote.
Harris called Trump on Wednesday to formally concede the race. Clinton called Trump on election night in 2016 and asked him to concede.
“Losing hurts immeasurably,” Ms. Dillon said Wednesday, according to a staff memo sent by Ms. Harris' campaign manager, Jen O'Malley Dillon, obtained by Fox News.

“The Vice President recently contacted President Trump and advised him to concede the race,” the email said. “During the call, she said she intends to work with President Biden to ensure a peaceful transfer of power, unlike in 2020, and that President Biden will be a president for all Americans. Harris was selected by the Democratic National Committee in the summer, just one week after President Biden declined to run for re-election due to his poor debate performance against Trump, and just one week after the assassination attempt on Trump. Harris previously ran for president in 2020, but her campaign was short-lived. She withdrew in December 2019, citing a lack of campaign funds.
