Trump Nominates Lance Schroyer for ICE Director

On Saturday, former President Trump revealed that he intends to nominate Lance Schroyer as the next head of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

According to Trump, Schroyer boasts over 29 years of law enforcement expertise in Oklahoma, winning in all 77 counties during the elections of 2016, 2020, and 2024. He also has a background as an Oklahoma State Trooper and a U.S. Marine.

Trump described Schroyer as a patriot with significant operational experience. He emphasized that Schroyer has successfully led the 287G law enforcement partnership with ICE, aiming to remove dangerous individuals from the community. “Lance understands the importance of getting illegal aliens off our streets,” Trump noted, expressing support from himself and Homeland Security Secretary Mark Wayne Mullin for Schroyer’s nomination.

ICE’s Recent Actions

In his announcement, Trump highlighted Schroyer’s capability to detain and deport serious offenders, including violent criminals, at unprecedented levels. He remarked on the prior administration’s record-high daily arrest rates by ICE and urged the Senate to confirm Schroyer without delay. “America is safe again,” he declared.

Schroyer will take over from acting director David Venturella, who had recently stepped into the role, replacing Todd Lyons.

Support from Homeland Security

Homeland Security Secretary Mullin praised the nomination, calling it an “excellent choice.” He stated that Schroyer would effectively implement the President’s directives regarding the targeting and deportation of illegal aliens. Mullin noted Schroyer’s practical experience, emphasizing his proven track record in coordinating large-scale operations to remove undocumented individuals from Oklahoma.

Both Mullin and Schroyer hail from Oklahoma, and it’s worth mentioning that Mullin took charge after Kristi Noem resigned in March. He urged the Senate to process Schroyer’s confirmation promptly, pointing out that it has been 11 years since ICE appointed a director.

Schroyer’s nomination comes at a challenging moment for ICE, marked by protests in various cities triggered by two shootings involving ICE agents in Minneapolis earlier in January.
