Tim Walz loses home county of Blue Earth in Minnesota to Trump

There is no homeland glory here.

Democratic vice presidential candidate Gov. Tim Walz not only lost the overall election to Donald Trump, he even lost his home county to him.

President-elect Trump won a landslide victory in Blue Earth County, Minnesota, where he received 49.6% of the vote, and Walz's family had lived there for 20 years before he was elected governor.

Walz's running mate, Vice President Kamala Harris, fell behind with about 48.3% of the vote.

This is a reversal from 2020, when current President Biden won the county with 51% of the vote to Trump's 46.5%. According to Politico.

Walz was born in Nebraska, but moved to Blue Earth County as an adult, where he taught social studies and coached football at Mankato West High School.

He flipped the state's 1st Congressional District to Democrats in 2006 and represented the area in Congress for 12 years.

Walz then ran for governor, defeating his Republican opponent by a double-digit margin in 2018.

Minnesota's 10 electoral votes ultimately went to Harris early Wednesday, but Trump was still the first to reach 270 electoral votes, beating the Democratic ticket.
