Sen. Mike Lee Backs Rick Scott for Senate Majority Leader After Candidate Forum

Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) endorsed Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) as his first choice for Senate Majority Leader after hosting a candidate forum on Tuesday, leaving the session. He enumerated the lessons learned and encouraged his colleagues to join him.

The candidate forum hosted by Sen. Lee featured three candidates seeking to take over the reins from 82-year-old Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).

More from Breitbart News:

Several senators spoke about the importance of keeping the floor open to consider bills, the need to allow debate on the Senate floor and within Republican senators, and the best way to move President Donald Trump's policies. Leadership strategies and styles were discussed.

Most senators hid their preferences after the forum.

But Mr. Lee is not one of those people. After the forum, he announced his formal support for Scott and explained his takeaways from the forum.

The Utah senator said that in recent years, the Senate has “stopped functioning as Congress.” [“the world’s greatest deliberative body,”] …because the majority leaders of both parties consolidated their power at the expense of nearly every other senator. ”

“Senators should have ample opportunity to debate, debate, and amend important legislation, and Senate rules provide important procedural protections to ensure such an outcome,” Lee said. We are providing it.” “These rules have been short-circuited by leaders of both parties, and have been short-circuited by leaders of both parties, leading to what I sometimes refer to (in the current configuration of Congress) as 'Schumer McConnell Johnson & Jeffries,' or simply 'The Firm.' He continued, pointing out that the “corporate” agenda is bad for the Senate and ultimately bad for the American people.

“Therefore, I urge those running to be the next Senate Republican leader to restore the rules, customs, and practices that in the past helped give the Senate its (currently inaccurate) title. I personally like all three candidates: Cornyn, Thune and Scott, but Scott “stands out as the most aggressive reform-minded candidate.” said. He cited the Florida senator's “concrete, aggressive plan to restore the Senate's most time-honored traditions, which are rooted in rules.”

He also believes Scott's approach is “most closely aligned and focused on helping President Trump enact legislative policies that are supported by more than 75 million American voters.” said.

“With this in mind, I wholeheartedly support Rick Scott and respectfully urge my colleagues, especially those who agree that bold reforms are desperately needed, to do the same.” He sued.

“All three candidates provided valuable perspectives on how the conference should be run. I found the entire discussion refreshing and productive. However, Rick Mr. Scott's approach is outstanding, which is why I will be voting for him,” Lee continued, adding that Scott has “consistently criticized Senate Republican leadership for their abuses of office in the past. (even in difficult and difficult times),” he added. It will cost him a lot politically. ”

“This is another reason to support him,” he added.

Mr. Lee joins Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) in expressing strong support for Mr. Scott over other senators, citing the Florida senator's ability to support McConnell. They accused him of acting as a one-man dictator.

“Mr. McConnell ran a one-man dictatorship,” he said. Breitbart News Daily. “We had no idea what his strategy was.”
