MSNBC host Rachel Maddow said Thursday on “Deadline” that President-elect Donald Trump is trying to “destroy the U.S. government” by selecting Cabinet members.
Maddow said, “I think the idea of authoritarian commitment is that everything but the will of the leader will wither away in government, right? So to expect great things from HHS, you don't necessarily have to rely on Robert F. Kennedy to expect great things from HHS. There's no need to put Junior in charge. Matt Gaetz, he's clearly proposing abolishing the Department of Justice, but he's specifically talking about abolishing the Department of Justice, not abolishing the FBI and ATF. .”
She added, “So making Tulsi Gabbard Director of National Intelligence would, under normal circumstances, give her security clearance to serve as a kind of Walmart-style guide to the U.S. intelligence community.'' It's insane to think that you can, let alone break through security barriers. So you're doing it because you want the worst for these government agencies. Because they think it's worthless and they want the worst for the U.S. government. It's part of the consolidation of power, and the U.S. government is nothing but the leaders and the people who do what they say. They are not a repository of specialized knowledge, much less general everyday knowledge. So this is a kind of, as Steve Bannon used to say, a kind of Leninism. Destroy the nation, right? This is a cabinet you appointed to run the U.S. government, not to do anything, but to destroy the U.S. government. It can be fundamentally reconsidered as something close to unitary authoritarianism or despotism, for lack of a better term.
