The controversy surrounding Whoopi Goldberg's accusations against a Staten Island baker is getting worse. The View A co-sponsor and borough president is now demanding that she publicly apologize for claiming the bakery refused service to her based on her politics.
Borough President Vito Fossella (R) criticized Whoopi Goldberg at a news conference Friday outside Holterman's Bakery, but did not mention Goldberg by name.
“Someone recently went on national television and frankly denigrated this family business,” he said. “We are here to advocate for the best families and businesses, not just on Staten Island, but in this country.”
He added: “Frankly, those who slandered the Holterman family should apologize for making things up to suit their own convenience. Not everyone wakes up every day and thinks about politics. ”
As reported by Breitbart News, Whoopi Goldberg said: ABC's The View Earlier this week, an unspecified Staten Island bakery accused a baker of refusing service based on political beliefs. Goldberg said she ordered a large quantity of Charlotte Ruth cakes, but was told the oven was broken.
Mr. Goldberg said: The View: “Not really…because I'm a woman, but maybe they didn't like my politics.”
Entertainment Weekly later identified the bakery as Halterman's Bakery on Staten Island.
The bakery vehemently denies Mr. Goldberg's accusations, saying that when Mr. Goldberg first tried to place an order on Nov. 13 so he could celebrate his 69th birthday on air, the machine was installed in a 60-year-old boiler. Goldberg's political beliefs were without foundation. What should we do about it?
This controversy is the latest failure for America The Viewhas gotten into trouble many times in the past due to comments made by hosts.
