‘Girls must compete against girls’: Christian school forfeits state championships over male player on girls’ volleyball team

A high school girls' volleyball team in California refused to play in a tournament after learning that the opposing team had a male player.

Stoneridge Christian School was scheduled to play San Francisco Waldorf in the California Interscholastic Federation State Girls Volleyball Championship playoffs. However, upon learning that the San Francisco team had a male player, the team announced their intention to withdraw.

A copy of the school's letter to parents. ×revealed that the school's reason for not participating was based on religious beliefs.

The Nov. 15 letter begins, “As many of you know, the girls won on Wednesday and advanced to the state playoffs.” “Unfortunately, we just received word that our opponent, San Francisco Waldorf, has a male athlete on their team.”

“We believe that the Word of God is authoritative and infallible. It is true. And as Genesis makes clear, God amazingly and unchangeably calls each person male and female. or created as a woman,” the letter continued.

“We do not believe that gender is changeable and will not participate in any event that sends a different message,” it added.

The message concluded by expressing a “duty and responsibility” for the safety of students and saying that standing up for what you believe in “means more than the game.”

Afterwards, the school asked the award recipients to congratulate the student-athletes.

“We always stand for Biblical truth.”

The male student was identified at the exit. redux as Henry Hanlon, a senior who also plays on the Waldorf women's basketball team.

Hanlon likely was the catalyst for his suspension in the basketball world, particularly from Averroes High School, an Islamic school, but he did not say why.

Stoneridge School said in a statement to Blaze News that it intends to stand up for what the school believes to be true.

“We will always stand for what is Biblical truth and right.”

“Girls must compete with other girls for fairness, safety and truth,” the school added.

Stoneridge has a history of going against the grain in ultra-liberal California. In 2021, we were one of three schools to receive this award. 2 year playoff ban High school football players who played during the coronavirus shutdown.

Capital Christian, Ripon Christian and Stone Ridge were suspended, and their teams and athletic departments were also placed on probation.

The Sac-Joaquin Section School District said at the time that while it “understands that the postponement of interscholastic games is 'upsetting,'” it expects all schools to follow the rules set by the governor's office.

Commissioner Michael Garrison called the closure a “public safety issue” and expressed disappointment that the school did not follow the directive.

Stoneridge is reportedly seeking legal representation from the Alliance Defending Freedom over the volleyball debacle.
