Newly released police bodycam video shows the moment that a Michigan suspect attempted to flee a police officer on a riding lawnmower. However, the suspect ended up getting tased and shooting himself in the hand, according to police bodycam footage.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office said officers were dispatched to the property in Leoni Township.

“This was an unfortunate and certainly dangerous situation. Mr. Kerr was not feeling well that day.”

According to body camera video released by the sheriff's office, Deputy Robert Henderson arrested 41-year-old James Mitchell Carr III on Sept. 19 on a felony violation of probation and two misdemeanor warrants. He said he went to WWJ-TV.

of video The video, which has been seen hundreds of thousands of times online, appears to show Carr ignoring multiple commands from Henderson to get off the riding mower.

The officer was seen chasing Mr Carr and repeatedly commanding him to stop.

The suspect finally stopped the lawnmower when the officer wielded a Taser.

Henderson warns, “Run, I'll tape you, James.”

Carr was seen getting off the mower and then picking up what appeared to be a handgun from under the mower seat, police said. WJBK-TV.

Officers taped the suspect, who then fell to the ground.

The policeman yelled, “Drop your gun!”

The video shows the suspect shooting himself in the hand.

Carr was reportedly treated at a hospital for gunshot wounds and later released.

Carr was charged Oct. 23 with assault with intent to murder, use of a firearm in a felonious manner, and resisting and obstructing police. he was released on bail.

If convicted, Carr could face up to life in prison for the assault charge, up to two years for the use of a firearm charge and up to two years for resisting an officer.

Jackson County Sheriff Gary Schuette said“This incident highlights how quickly seemingly routine encounters can escalate, and the potential danger that deputies face on a daily basis. Fortunately, the deputy was unharmed. The suspect was not seriously injured.”

This was announced by Mr Kerr's lawyer, Philip Curtis. detroit news“This was an unfortunate and certainly dangerous situation. Mr Kerr was not feeling well that day, but I think it is likely he intended to harm himself and that is what happened. I think the deputy should be commended for effectively de-escalating the situation before anyone was seriously injured, and my client and his family are grateful for that. ”

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office conducted an internal investigation. Michigan State Police conducted an independent criminal investigation that cleared Mr. Henderson of wrongdoing and found no violations of department policy.
