Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.) told CNN's “Inside Politics” on Sunday that it's clear Democrats have lost touch with voters in the wake of the 2024 election results.
Host Manu Raju said, “Democrats are in the very early stages of trying to figure out what went terribly wrong for them in the election. And there's no consensus. Moderate Democrats… They believe the party has moved too far to the left, and progressives say they have struggled to adequately communicate the benefits of their policies, as well as the state of the economy and the direction of the country. House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries began a series of sometimes tense listening sessions with members of Congress, with all sides agreeing that the U.S. House of Representatives has failed to capitalize on the deep anxiety surrounding Congress. And in the first post-chapter meeting, several Democrats said the party's efforts to address issues such as border security and crime have been lackluster.
Raju asked, “What is the biggest mistake that needs to be corrected?”
Moulton said, “Well, obviously we've lost touch with the majority of Americans. Democrats preach to people who don't agree 100% with our orthodox views, which are often defined by the far left. Then they have a habit of saying they're just bad people. They're morally wrong. And that's not how they win elections.”
