President-elect Donald Trump's new secretary of education, Linda McMahon, is not exactly the type of school librarian.
As the wife of WWE founder Vince McMahon, Linda, like Trump himself, has been deeply involved in the wrestling entertainment industry for decades. She led the WWE organization as CEO.
This new executive branch cabinet member was even subjected to a violent wrestling move during a WWE event decades ago.
Clips of Ms McMahon's body slam resurfaced on social media in the days after her appointment was announced.

In one incident, on an episode of “Monday Night Raw” in the early 2000s, Glenn Thomas Jacobs, also known as “Cain,” hit the new Secretary of Education with a Tombstone Piledriver, leaving him apparently unconscious.
In one of WWE's most infamous stories at the time, she appeared in a series of skits in which she berated her children, Stephanie and Shane McMahon. Some of those skits had her children fighting back.
McMahon served on the Connecticut State Board of Education for one year starting in 2009. She told lawmakers at the time that she had been interested in education all her life and had once planned to become a teacher.
She twice attempted to run for the U.S. Senate as a Republican from Connecticut, losing in 2010 to Richard Blumenthal and in 2012 to Chris Murphy.

Mr. McMahon later provided $6 million to support Mr. Trump's candidacy after he won the Republican presidential nomination in 2016.
McMahon, who served as head of the Small Business Administration during President Trump's first term from 2017 to 2019, wrote in his resignation that the role had been “extremely rewarding.”
When McMahon was chosen for the role, she was praised by Blumenthal and Murphy, two of the Connecticut Democrats who had defeated her in her Senate campaign. Mr. Blumenthal called her a “person of significant accomplishments and ability,” and said Mr. Murphy was a “talented and experienced businessman.”
McMahon later chaired America First Action, a super PAC supporting Trump's 2020 re-election campaign. When Trump lost to Biden, McMahon continued to defend Trump's policies and helped found the America First Policy Institute to prepare for a possible return to whiteness. house.

When Trump ran for president this year, McMahon co-chaired his transition team with Howard Lutnick, CEO of financial services firm Cantor Fitzgerald. As part of that role, McMahon has been supporting the new Trump administration's plans.
“As Secretary of Education, Linda will work tirelessly to expand choice to every state in America and empower parents to make the best education decisions for their families,” President Trump said in a statement announcing her appointment. We will continue to do so.”
