Trump used Truth Social to share news.
“I am proud to announce former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi as the next Attorney General of the United States,” he began.
“Pam served as a prosecutor for nearly 20 years, being tough on violent criminals and keeping our streets safe for Florida families,” he wrote. “Then, as Florida's first female attorney general, she worked to stop the trafficking of the deadly drug and reduce the tragedy of fentanyl overdose deaths that have devastated so many families across the country.” I asked her to serve on the Opioid and Substance Abuse Committee during my first term because she did a great job. We saved many lives!”
“For too long, a partisan Justice Department has been used as a weapon against me and other Republicans, and that's no longer the case,” he continued. “Pam will refocus the Department of Justice on its original purpose of fighting crime and making America safe again. I have known Pam for many years. She is smart, tough, and America's first.” He is a warrior and will do a great job as Attorney General!”
She currently chairs the legal department at the America First Institute for Policy Studies.
The announcement comes after the original nominee, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Florida), announced that he was withdrawing his nomination, citing “unwarranted grounds that his confirmation would interfere with the important work of the Trump/Vance transition.” It took place a few hours later.
