The Santa Monica Police Department on Thursday released body camera footage from an October attack in which a man with a knife was shot to death outside police headquarters.
According to the police department, the incident occurred around 5:21 p.m. on Oct. 5, when the officer was outside the building to speak with a woman about an unrelated phone call.
Officer body camera video showed three people outside: the suspect, later identified as 28-year-old Deya Abdelhadi Halaibeh, a woman, and another man.
“Let me talk to them first and then we can talk,” the officer can be heard saying to Haraibbe, who approaches him at the door.

Haraibe, who had one hand inside her jacket, asked if other people had been in the building first, and the woman said yes. He then began to speak, but the officer cut him off and asked him what he had in his jacket.
“What's in your jacket? It's a little nerve-wracking to have your hands inside your jacket like that,” the officer said.
“Are you nervous?” Haraibbe said as he lunged at the officer with a knife. After being stabbed and slashed, the officer fled to the side of the building and armed himself with a gun, all the while Haraibbe attacked him.
The officer fired several shots, causing Haraibbe to stumble and drop the knife. He picked up the knife and began walking towards the officer again before being shot.

The suspect, who lives in New York, has no criminal history in California and no previous contact with Santa Monica police, the department said. It is unclear what prompted him to attack the officer.
The knife he used was an 8-inch chef's knife that was part of a package he snatched from a Target employee minutes before arriving at the police station, according to surveillance video. Haraibeh allegedly assaulted an employee during the theft.
