Trump picks Scott Turner as secretary of Department of Housing and Urban Development

President-elect Trump has nominated Scott Turner to head the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Turner is director of the Center for Educational Opportunity, a former professional football player, and previously served as executive director of the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council (WHORC).

“Mr. Scott is an NFL veteran who served as the first executive director of the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council (WHORC) during my first term, setting a precedent for transforming some of our nation's most distressed communities,” Trump said. “He has contributed to leading the initiative.” Friday's statement. “These efforts, in collaboration with former HUD Secretary Ben Carson, were maximized by Scott's leadership, which oversees 16 federal agencies that implemented more than 200 policy actions that fostered economic development. “Opportunity Zones have received over $50 billion in private investment!''

Turner, a graduate of the University of Illinois, played cornerback for the Washington Redskins before winning a state election in Texas. He served in the Texas House of Representatives from 2013 to 2017.

“Scott is the founder and CEO of the Community Engagement Opportunity Council (CEOC), a family foundation dedicated to revitalizing communities across America through sports, mentorship, and economic opportunity. “I am,” he said. “He is also a director of the American Cornerstone Institute and an associate pastor at Prestonwood Baptist Church.”
