An elderly man fell to his death during a home invasion in Washington Heights early Saturday morning, police and news reports said. A neighbor saw the victim climb out of a window and fall onto the scaffolding.
Police said the trio of robbers met at about 4:30 a.m. near 161st Street and Broadway after one of the robbers climbed a fire escape, broke through a window, and let the other two in through the front door. broke into a residential apartment. .
The robbers tied up a 40-year-old man and stole about $8,000 worth of gold chains and about $200 in cash, authorities said.
Jacinto Remigo, 73, the father of the detained man, fell from a unit window onto construction scaffolding as a disturbing robbery unfolds, police said.
He was rushed to Harlem Hospital, but could not be saved.
New York City police said they were still investigating how the man fell, but neighbor Heriberto Garcia said: told NBC 4 Remigo crawled out of a window and tried to use a small ledge to reach another window before falling to his death.
Another resident, Richard Ramsundersingh, recalled hearing a loud noise early in the morning. CBS2.

Heartbreaking footage from the scene showed Remigo being placed on a stretcher and paramedics trying to get him onto the pavement and into an ambulance.

The three robbery suspects, all men, are being investigated by the New York City Police Department after their escape.
