A new CNN poll finds that Americans are far more favorable toward President-elect Donald Trump's transition than they were eight years ago, and that Democrats have all but “given up.”
CNN polling analyst Harry Enten reviewed the results in his CNN segment, showing President Trump's favorability rating has increased by double digits.
“The bottom line is the Republican Party is very motivated to see Donald Trump win.”
While most presidential candidates' approval ratings spike after winning, Enten said, Trump's approval ratings rose by just 1 percentage point after his surprise victory in 2016. Eight years later, it had jumped to 18%.
“Look at where we are today. We're significantly higher by 18 points. That's 17 points higher in net approval ratings during the presidential transition. Here's the bottom line: Eight years ago, Americans “Even if they have a lukewarm attitude toward Donald Trump, at this particular point in time, they're going to give him far more benefit than the doubt,” he explained. .
“Far more Americans like this transition. It's more in line with historical norms,” Enten concluded.
He also said that other polling shows that Americans are generally much more positive about the prospects for a second term for Trump.
“Let's compare who we are now with who we were eight years ago. Compared to eight years ago, 53% of Americans are fearful or concerned about President Trump's next term; The majority was the majority,” Enten said.
“Look where we are now, the shoe is on the other foot,” he continued. “53% of Americans are excited or optimistic, a reversal from a narrow majority eight years ago who were fearful or concerned about the upcoming Trump presidency. What we're seeing now. The majority of respondents are excited or optimistic about Trump's presidency.
As if that good news wasn't enough for President Trump, Democrats are also completely demoralized following their disastrous presidential election loss, Republican loss in the U.S. Senate, and Republican control of the House of Representatives.
“If I had to sum up the Democratic Party right now, I think it would be that they are exhausted,” Enten said.
“Donald Trump wears out his opponents, and I think they've done that here as well.”
According to the poll, the number of Democrats willing to continue to oppose Trump even after Trump's victory was a minority at about 44%, but the majority either had no desire to oppose Trump or supported him. I said yes. Forty-six percent said they were unmotivated, and 10% said they supported Trump.
“The bottom line is this: Republicans. [are] Donald Trump's victory is a big motivator. And compared to eight years ago, Democrats are really, really tired,” Enten said.
“They've just given up!” he concluded.
