The NAACP has expressed concern about how President-elect Trump's Cabinet appointments will affect Black Americans, some of whom are involved in developing the conservative presidential transition plan Project 2025. It is said that
“From criminal suspects to confirmed authors of Project 2025, the president-elect's Cabinet appointments will be difficult over the next four years,” NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson said in a statement Monday. “It shows a promising outlook.”
“Let's be clear: 2025 should be a year that advances the progress made over the past four years, not a year that seeks to reverse it.”
Trump's appointment has drawn shock and concern from many Democratic lawmakers and advocacy groups.
One of the most controversial nominees was former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Florida) as attorney general, despite a Justice Department investigation and an investigation into him by the House Ethics Committee. Gaetz ultimately withdrew his candidacy.
But President Trump also selected Project 2025 co-author Russell Vought to head the Office of Management and Budget.
“The Secretary must view his job as the best and most comprehensive reflection of the President's thinking,” Vought wrote in a chapter of his transition plan. He added that the office is “the president's air traffic control system” and should be “involved in all aspects of the White House policy process.” He also said the office should have “sufficient powers to override the bureaucracy of implementing agencies.”
On Monday, the Congressional Black Caucus PAC vowed to fight Republican efforts to implement the plan.
Since the plan was first announced during the campaign period, the NAACP has worked to highlight the devastating impact this plan would have on Black Americans.
The group is claimed that the plan would be withdrawn They will lose decades of civil rights rights and, in the process, “undermine our progress, dismantle our democracy, and take us back to a time when we didn't have a vote or a voice.”
“The NAACP remains steadfast in our beliefs that education is the bedrock of democracy, health care is a human right, and economic empowerment begins with equity,” Johnson said Monday.
“Our nation's sworn leaders must strive to uphold the rule of law, not destroy it. We will continue to fight to advance important policies that enrich the lives of Americans.”
