Democratic U.S. Rep. Katie Porter of California has sought a domestic violence restraining order against her ex-boyfriend, whom she claims is trying to prevent him from speaking to the media.
For request details, reported Politico obtained court documents filed by Porter in Orange County Superior Court.
“In recent weeks, his threats against my family and colleagues have increased in frequency and intensity.”
Ms Porter accused Julian Willis of “relentless abuse and harassment” in 1,000 text messages and emails sent to her, her family and staff over three months. Mr. Willis was her lover for several years and sometimes lived in her mansion.
A judge granted the temporary restraining order Tuesday and scheduled a hearing for December.
Mr. Porter claimed in his filing that Mr. Willis threatened to damage his reputation by accusing him of having genital herpes. She submitted test results to the court to prove the allegations were false.
She also said Willis suffered from mental illness and substance abuse, which led to two involuntary psychiatric hospitalizations.
“I observed him abusing prescription painkillers, vaping Ritalin, and abusing marijuana and nicotine patches,” she reportedly wrote in the document. “He has also previously disclosed to me his use of cocaine and nitrous oxide ('whippet'). ”
Willis told Politico that he tried to prevent Porter from going to the media or from filing a lawsuit against her.
“This is her way of fighting everything,” he is quoted as saying.
She said in a police report that Porter had become “aggressive” and “violent” towards her and Porter's children in mid-August, and that she had asked for police supervision to remove her from her home at the time. He claimed that he was looking for. She said she wasn't out of town when he moved out, but there was no indication that police were at the home.
“She's a monster,” Willis said.
Porter, who plans to leave Congress following his failed Senate campaign, released a statement to Politico about his ex-girlfriend.
“Mr. Porter said, “Willis has suffered from well-documented mental health and substance abuse issues. As the records filed today show, I ended our relationship and gave him a home. Those problems have only gotten worse since I asked them to come out.” Over the past few weeks, his threats against my family and colleagues have increased in frequency and intensity, and I feel compelled to seek this order from the court. I really hope he gets the help he needs. ”
In 2013, Porter obtained a restraining order against her then-husband, who subsequently obtained a mutual restraining order against her. They later divorced.
