Donald Trump says the most beautiful word in the dictionary is “more beautiful than love.”
And he wasted no time using those words, vowing to impose new tariffs on Canada, Mexico and China. The president-elect's plan is to impose a 25% tariff on products from Mexico and Canada and a 35% tariff on all imports from China.

Another major argument against tariffs is that “tariffs raise prices across the board,” but even CNBC disputes that supposed “fact.”
“If politics were a video game and the president was a character you could play, tariffs would be the most powerful economic measure,” John Fort said on “The Squawk Box.” “But what is a customs duty? It's basically a tax that any business has to pay when they bring goods into a country.”
“The United States is a uniquely large country with a huge consumer base by global standards, so almost every size company in the world has to sell here. “The argument against it is that tariffs simply tax American consumers,” he continued. “Tariffs can encourage companies to avoid additional fees by making things in the United States, and they can level the playing field for American manufacturers who are being overwhelmed by cheaper imports.”
“Therefore, we cannot take headlines that tariffs are nothing more than an attack on American consumers with a grain of salt. If tariffs always significantly raise prices for consumers, why didn’t they happen in 2018 and 2019? The truth is that the United States is so focused on facilitating the import of products from other countries that other countries reflexively impose tariffs on American products while allowing a large influx of foreign products. This means that tariffs cannot stop it. ” he added.
Gonzalez is shocked that CNBC had Fort defend President Trump's tariffs.
“Amazing,” she comments. “Far-right CNBC repeats far-right extremists' claim that tariffs are not necessarily the end of the world.”
