‘Hunger Games’ star Jeffrey Wright reveals if he’ll be in Haymitch movie

He volunteered as a tribute.

Jeffrey Wright would consider returning to District 3 as Beatty Latier. In June, it was confirmed that a new Hunger Games prequel film focusing on Haymitch Abernathy would be released in 2026.

“I hadn't heard anything about it,” the Oscar-nominated actor told the Post while promoting his new show “The Agency.”

The Westworld star added: And that was one of the first productions I was a part of that was really targeted at a younger audience. But it was also a very smart material. ”

The Hunger Games, based on Suzanne Collins' trilogy, was a dystopian story set in a world where the U.S. government forced children and teens to fight to the death. The original trilogy starred Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen and Woody Harrelson as her mentor Haymitch Abernathy. Wright played one of her companions, Beattie Rattier, a fellow “winner” who had competed and won in the past.

The original book trilogy was made into four films, released between 2012 and 2015. In 2023, a prequel film, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbird and the Snake, starring Rachel Zegler and Tom Bryce, was released.

The latest film is called “The Hunger Games: Sunrise of the Reap'' and follows Abernathy's gaming days as a teenager.

It wouldn't be out of the question for Wright to appear in the film, as Rattier is older than Abernathy and is one of his allies.

As for whether that's a possibility, Wright told the Post: They asked really thoughtful questions about society and how we live in it. And it all centered around this strong young woman. If they asked me to come back and do something, I would seriously consider it. ”

But Wright's schedule has become increasingly busy, with him appearing in the sequel to The Batman starring Robert Pattinson and playing Denzel in Spike Lee's next film, The High and Low. Co-stars with Washington.

“We have to figure out when we have the time to do it,” he said.

“But I love that series.”

“The Agency” debuts Friday, Nov. 29 on Showtime on Paramount+.
