Georgia’s Carson Beck avoids watching football games in free time: ‘It’s stressful for me’

Georgia quarterback Carson Beck is preparing for a rematch with the No. 2 Texas Longhorns after Georgia defeated Texas by 15 points in Austin in October.

On Saturday, both teams will meet in Atlanta for the 2024 SEC title.

On November 29, Georgia survived eight overtimes to defeat Georgia Tech. The next day, Texas defeated in-state rival Texas A&M to qualify for the championship game.

Beck had not watched his next opponent's recent games. In fact, Beck tends to avoid watching football games in his free time because it's so stressful.

Beck told reporters he doesn't watch games for entertainment, saying, “It's not fun.”

When asked if he planned to watch the Texas-Texas A&M game, Beck replied, “I don't watch football.”

Bucks' Baker Mayfield criticizes college football's showboating: “Let the boys play''

“It might sound a little crazy, but I don't like watching football. It's not fun for me. I watch movies. So let me explain a little bit what that means. Let's watch that game and I'm like, 'I can't just sit there and enjoy it, I'm going to be stressed out the whole time.

“You look at the defense and you think, 'Why this coverage?' You think, 'Then why did he throw it there against this coverage?' But I mean, you can learn by watching it, but it's stressful for me because I don't get any time off when it comes to football. ”

Although incorporating games out of causality doesn't seem to be Beck's cup of tea, watching movies is part of his daily routine.

“But I obviously went back and watched the film now knowing we were going to play Texas in the SEC Championship,” Beck said. “Their defense is really good. They have a lot of talent defensively. Their defensive coordinator does a good job of putting them in good positions. Executing and playing at a high level. I'm excited for the opportunity to play with them again.”

Georgia lost to Alabama 27-24 in last year's SEC Championship Game, missing out on the College Football Playoff. But Georgia's thrilling victory over Georgia Tech increases the Bulldogs' chances of earning a spot in the new 12-team playoffs regardless of the outcome of the SEC title game.
