Trump picks Monica Crowley for senior State Department post

President-elect Trump on Wednesday nominated Monica Crowley, a former Fox News contributor who came under public scrutiny for plagiarism allegations during Trump's first term, to the top communications post at the State Department.

President Trump announced that he had nominated Crowley to be “ambassador, assistant secretary of state, and chief of protocols,” a post that he said would oversee major U.S.-sponsored events, including the 250th anniversary of American independence in 2026. The FIFA World Cup will be held in 2026 and the Los Angeles Olympics will be held in 2028.

The position of Chief of Protocol within the State Department requires Senate confirmation.

“She will be an extraordinary representative of our country. Congratulations, Monica!” President Trump wrote in a post on his social media site, Truth Social.

President Trump praised Crowley's “amazing work” during her first term, noting that she is a New York Times bestselling author, popular Fox News anchor and political and diplomatic analyst.
