President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday named Peter Navarro as his senior adviser for trade and manufacturing.
The nomination all but vindicates Mr. Navarro, 75, who was released in July after serving a four-month prison sentence for defying a parliamentary summons from the partisan Jan. 6 committee. It turns out.
Navarro spoke at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee just hours after his release.
President Trump: “During my first term, few people were as effective and persistent as Peter in adhering to my two sacred rules: Buy American and Hire American.'' I wrote In true social. “He helped us renegotiate unfair trade agreements like NAFTA and the Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement (KORUS), and moved all tariff and trade actions quickly.”
“The position of senior advisor leverages Peter's extensive policy analysis and media skills, while leveraging his extensive White House experience,” Trump added. “His mission is to help successfully advance and communicate President Trump's manufacturing, tariffs and trade agenda.”
“He did a great job for the American people during my first term,” he continued. “As senior advisor, Peter will go the extra mile to protect American workers and truly make American manufacturing great again.”
Mr. Navarro holds a PhD from Harvard University and is an economist by training. He previously taught economics and public policy at the University of California, Irvine. Navarro served in President Trump's first administration in 2017.
