President-elect Trump has appointed former Sen. David Perdue (R-Ga.) as the U.S. ambassador to China.
Trump said in the announcement that Perdue “brings valuable expertise that will help us build our relationship with China,” citing his decades-long career in the business world.

“He will be instrumental in implementing my strategy to maintain peace in the region and maintain a productive working relationship with China's leadership,” Trump said on Truth Social.
The appointment comes amid President Trump's threat to impose additional tariffs on Chinese goods unless Beijing does more to stop the trafficking of the highly addictive drug fentanyl.
