duck dynasty star Jace Robertson has revealed that his father Phil Robertson has been diagnosed with the “early stages” of Alzheimer's disease.
during an episode of Shame on the Robertson family. podcastJace said the family had been “trying to figure out” Phil's diagnosis, adding that doctors were “confident he has some type of blood disorder.”
Jace added that his father had a “blood disease” as well as the “early stages” of Alzheimer's disease.
“Phil's not feeling well,” Jace explained. “I think I talked about it on my 1,000th podcast. We were trying to look into the diagnosis, and the doctors said they were convinced he had some kind of blood disease that was causing all kinds of problems. I am.”
Jace added that it was “accelerating” and “causing problems throughout the body.”
“And he has early Alzheimer's disease,” Jace continued. “So, when you put all these things together, it means he's just not feeling well. He's really struggling.”
Alan Robertson, Phil Robertson's eldest son, said their father had “good days and bad days” just like “people with Alzheimer's”.
Alzheimer's disease is described as “the most common cause of dementia” and is also “a biological process that begins with the accumulation of proteins in the brain in the form of amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles.” According to Mayo Clinic.
The Mayo Clinic estimates that approximately 6.9 million people in the United States over the age of 65 have Alzheimer's disease, and 70 percent of Alzheimer's patients are over the age of 75.
“We're trying to do a lot of things to see how we can make him more comfortable and maybe find ways to help his memory,” Jace added. “There are a lot of things we are working on.”
