“They expressed their condolences and said they were heartbroken, but they also said 'every heart was shot,'” NYPD Deputy Chief of Detectives Jason Savino told reporters Monday. spoke. “Kokoro is portrayed as an Afro-Caribbean immigrant, so there's some sort of gang beef, and that obviously influences her motivations as well.”

The scuffle that killed Corino occurred Thursday at about 7:30 p.m. near John Street on Broadway, and authorities said the boy was punched, kicked and stabbed during the scuffle.

An 18-year-old boy, also believed to be an immigrant, was injured in the crash, police said.

Savino said a Walgreens employee witnessed the violence and “in typical New York fashion” dragged Corino, bleeding profusely, into the drugstore with a knife in his chest.

The seriously injured boy, who was carrying identification with him from the Roosevelt shelter, was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Police said another victim, an 18-year-old immigrant, was stabbed in the left arm with a knife during the disturbance and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

“As far as motive is concerned, all indications at this point are that this is a crew-motivated incident,” Savino added.

One of the victim's crew members told investigators that rivals were flashing gang signs, police officials added.

“Their response was they wanted to question why they were flashing gang signs. That's ultimately the victim's story,” Savino said.

However, Savino noted that surveillance footage revealed that the victim's crew member may have been the assailant.

“They're advancing toward a group of six black men, and at one point they're trotting toward a group on the other side, actually making phone calls,” Savino said. “Eventually the two groups would engage, but let me tell you this: both sides had weapons.”

The crew Los Diablos de la 42 vowed revenge for the murder.
