Sentence Delivered Against Man Who Attacked a Nevada Judge in the Courtroom

A felon who was caught on video attacking a Nevada judge, spectacularly jumping over a bench and a desk, was sentenced Tuesday to decades in prison.

Deobra Redden was ordered to serve 26 to 65 years in a Nevada prison for attacking Clark County District Court Judge Mary Kay Holthus on KLAS-TV in Las Vegas. reported.

Court officials said Holthus suffered minor injuries but was not hospitalized.

In a victim impact statement read by Clark County prosecutors, the 62-year-old accused Redden of being a person who “made a conscious decision to kill me and made every effort to succeed.” las vegas review journal reported.

Redden's lawyer, Karl Arnold, said at the time of the attack his client was not taking prescribed medication to control his diagnosed schizophrenia.

The convicted assailant insisted in court Tuesday that he never really intended to kill Holthus, KLAS-TV reported.

“I'm not excusing my actions, but I know I'm not a bad person and I never intended to kill Mary Kay Holthus,” he said.

Redden will be eligible for parole after 2050, KLAS-TV reported.
