Flight passenger warns travelers to ‘always screenshot your boarding pass’ — Here’s why

One traveler shared his experience using a mobile boarding pass on social media to share an important message with other travelers.

“Always take a screenshot of your boarding pass from the app,” the user wrote. “Call me paranoid but I take the extra step just in case.” I wrote this.

The user further explained that once they were seated, a flight attendant approached them and told them they had been upgraded.

“I finally got to go to FC.” [first class] And calm down, only for another FA [flight attendant] – I’m not making this up – come and tell me it was a mistake and the upgrade wasn’t available. It's annoying, but I think it's probably GA. [gate agent] I made a mistake,” the post said.

The Redditor, who claimed to be flying American Airlines, then shared that after returning to his original seat, a fellow passenger who had said he was waiting told him it was his seat.

“When I looked at the app, of course my boarding pass had been changed to a FC seat, but that seat was unavailable. I had a screenshot of the original pass and showed it to my girlfriend and FA. , then it was good the FA moved her somewhere at the back,” the post reads.

The user added: “It was just gross. Of course they had no explanation, but if it wasn't for that screenshot it would have been me.”

Fox News Digital has reached out to American Airlines for comment.

Gary Leff, a Virginia-based travel industry expert and author of the blog View From the Wing, told FOX News Digital that he always takes screenshots of his digital boarding pass.

“It's possible that the airline's systems go down or that your internet connection fails when you're trying to board. So I see this as a backup to ensure a smooth boarding experience.” Mr. Leff said.

In a sub-Reddit forum titled “r/americanairlines,” users took part in a discussion about online boarding passes.

“Horrible!! Great idea about the screenshot,” a user commented.

Another posted: “I've often wondered about that. Seat changes seem to happen very often before the flight.”

“I have mine in my wallet too, and when I change seats, my wallet gets updated too. Hence the screenshot,” the user added.

Some said they were taking screenshots of their passes as an extra precaution.

“I do this every time, just in case my phone or app has connectivity issues at the wrong time.”

Other users expressed dissatisfaction with the digital pass.

“Like you're always trying to avoid me and just disappear lol,” said one.

Many Redditors said they would prefer a physical boarding pass.

“Paper boarding pass ftw [for the win]. You don't have to show your phone to anyone,” one user commented.

Another added: “I always get a paper ticket. You never get a paper ticket. [know] What can happen with electronics? ”

One user agreed: “There's nothing quite like a paper boarding (pass) document with fancy numbers and barcodes printed on it.”

The user continued: “This is a legal document that could be useful in court. Electronic boarding passes from airline apps/websites can disappear in the blink of an eye. Screenprints are just a step above that. is.”

One user suggested, “Just print your boarding pass at the kiosk when you enter the airport.”

Leff says it's important to keep records of seating in case anything changes.

“Airlines may reassign seats for operational reasons, but showing where you were previously seated gives you a convincing argument against moving,” Lev says.
