Trump to sit for in-person deposition in defamation suit against ABC, George Stephanopoulos

A federal judge says President-elect Trump and George Stephanopoulos must appear in a multi-hour deposition just days before Christmas as part of the president-elect's defamation lawsuit against ABC News and its star anchor. Ta.

Miami Magistrate Judge Lisette Reed ordered Trump to appear in court next week for a deposition, which will be capped at four hours.

Mr. Stephanopoulos will also be required to attend the deposition, but Mr. Reed will allow him to testify remotely. His deposition will also be limited to four hours.

“Parties are reminded that the court “already allows for long discovery periods.” . . And with Election Day already behind us, there is no reason for any further delay,” Reed wrote, citing a previous order in a lawsuit filed in March.

In March, during an interview on “This Week” with Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.), President Trump mistakenly said multiple times that Trump “was found responsible for rape.” In response, ABC and Mr. Stephanopoulos were slapped with a lawsuit.

In May 2023, a Manhattan jury found former advice columnist E. Jean Carroll liable for sexually abusing her in a department store in 1996 and then defaming her with statements denying her allegations. In response, he ordered President Trump to pay $5 million.

President Trump is seeking unspecified damages.

He has previously filed similar lawsuits against broadcasters questioning his reporting, including a $475 million lawsuit against CNN that was dismissed by a federal judge in July 2023. has been unsuccessful.
